My name is Stefan Åberg and I live in the northern part of Sweden. I divide my time between knifemaking, hunting, fishing, and teaching knifemaking. My aim is to work full time with knives.

I have been invited to exhibit at several knife shows in both Germany and the US, most recently at the 2003 Blade Show in Atlanta. The Blade Show is the largest knife show in the world and only the best makers from all over the world are invited.

Besides custom art knives, I make survival knives for the Survival Centre of the Swedish Army.

I have made knives since the late eighties. My passion is to make hunting and Bowie knives. I forge my own Damascus and I have developed my own special technique and design. It’s deeply etched for excellent contrast. Many of my knife handles are made of desert ironwood and mammoth ivory.

I work mainly in stainless and carbon steel. I hand tool the sheaths and their decorations in genuine leather. The patterns on the sheaths are hand carved and sculpted, not just stamped like most leather sheaths for Nordic hunters. I am presently the only Swedish knifemaker to use this unique technique.

My biggest hobby is small game hunting with Irish setters in the mountains and wilderness of the northern part of Sweden. I hunt at least 40-50 days a year and I am experienced in different kinds of hunting at all seasons and weather conditions. Therefore, my knives are carefully developed and tested. The blades and tangs have been distal-tapered for excellent balance.

I am divorced with three daughters between 10 and 22 years old and my youngest daughter still lives at home with me. I had my own construction company for 16 years, after which I became a licensed therapist for young addicts and also a high school teacher in art work such as leather, forging, and knifemaking.
