As with most men, knives and swords prickled Jan Wahl's fancy ever since his earliest memories.
His real introduction to knifemaking was while he was working as a taxidermist. There, one of his colleagues made a quick knife out of an old band saw blade. Jan was immediately fascinated. His father found a knifemaker and blacksmith that lived nearby and Jan started working at his place and learned the basics from him. Jan would then spend weekends and holidays making knives through his youth.
Wahl's fascination with knives continued into adulthoood, and his father-in-law convinced him to pursue his passion for knifemaking full time. Knowing that someone supported him, gave him courage and he started his full-time knifemaking career in 2009. In 2012, Jan become a proud member of the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa.
Jan has a tremendous attention to detail with perfect fit and finish. He likes to use natural materials which give his knives a tremendous sense of presence.
